SUMMARY:Appellate Mentor Training
DESCRIPTION:Appellate Feedback Training\nThis free training is invitation only \nThursday 6/3/21 10AM – 12:30PM\nThursday 6/10/21 10AM – 12PM \nProviding feedback on appellate writing can be a challenge.  Where do I start?  How do I express my critiques in a productive yet supportive way?  How can I do this most efficiently and effectively? \nThis two-part virtual training will provide private counsel mentors and staff supervisors with strategies for how and when to give helpful feedback on appellate briefs.  The first day includes a hands-on session led by Suffolk Law School Professor Kathleen Vinson (https://www.suffolk.edu/academics/faculty/k/v/kvinson).  Between sessions\, attendees will be asked to critique a very short mock brief.  On the second day\, attendees will learn best practices for providing oral and written feedback\, and then work in pairs to practice providing oral feedback on that mock brief.  The training will conclude with a panel of private counsel appellate mentors\, where attendees can share common mentoring challenges and solutions. \nPlease contact your appellate panel director with any questions.

It will examine how these inequities reflect the operation of racial capitalism\, with the criminal legal\, family preservation and mental health systems exemplifying these dynamics. Participants will gain a better understanding of systemic racism specifically in Massachusetts and the tools necessary to become an Anti-Racist and address and influence racism in the legal systems in which we practice.
