SUMMARY:Negotiating and Litigating Meaningful Family Time
DESCRIPTION:Monday March 4\, 2024\, and Thursday March 14\, 2024. \nResearch has shown that the frequency and quality of family time significantly impacts the chances for reunification and leads to more positive outcomes for children. This makes ensuring frequent\, quality family time a cornerstone of every C&P and CRA. Over the course of two afternoons\, we will provide an overview of the law of “visitation” – including DCF’s obligations\, and the court’s sources of authority to enter orders. Using an interactive format\, we will discuss strategies for successfully negotiating and litigating for meaningful family time and share tips for removing barriers to positive family time experiences. Some advance reading required (~1 hour)\, entitles practitioners to an additional CLE for a total of 6 CLE credits. \nTraining Flyer: Negotiating And Litigating Meaningful Family Time \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZErcuCvqzkvHdHUCisSbQRqSP9T6DjuQn9s

SUMMARY:Webinar on the New Family Treatment Court in Hampden County Juvenile Court
DESCRIPTION:Many of our clients struggle with substance use disorders. The traditional court system has historically penalized our clients for what is now known as the natural course of sobriety which includes relapse. We are excited about the new Family Treatment Court in Hampden County (“FTC”). The FTC offers our clients a path to sobriety that has the potential to speed the process of reunification in a less formal and more supportive environment while helping them pursue recovery. As anticipated\, there are many questions about the FTC. Please come to a training on March 6 from 1-3:30 p.m. on Zoom to learn about how Family Treatment Court works. During the training you will have an opportunity to hear from someone with lived experience of the Family Treatment Court in Franklin County as well as court staff and CAFL. We will give a brief overview of the challenges our parent clients with substance use disorder face\, discuss why FTC can be beneficial to our clients\, and how it works. We will also cover advising clients about it\, the role of counsel in FTC cases\, and dispelling misconceptions about FTC. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end. And the training is worth 2.5 CAFL CLEs! \nMarch 6\, 1:00-3:30 PM.\nNote: 2.5 CLE credit for each webinar for attorneys on each of the following panels: CAFL\, CAFL Appeals. \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMkfu2srT4uGdzXMJh6-jC1HqWO9-DLkL-c

SUMMARY:CPCS MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM – MANAGERIAL EXCELLENCE - Application deadline January 15\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:CPCS MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM – MANAGERIAL EXCELLENCE \nIn 2020 we developed a two course CPCS Management and Leadership Program. Managerial Essentials are taught in MLP I.  MLP II is an advanced program in Managerial Excellence.  We are now accepting applications for MLP II (see end of post).  Although MLP I is generally a prerequisite for MLP II\, senior leaders and seasoned managers may attend MLP II without completing MLP I.  Space in the program is limited.  Applications are to be emailed to hsmith@publiccounsel.net and are due on or before 5 p.m. on January 15\, 2024. \nMLP II Program Goals \nThis program is designed to develop skills to enhance managerial excellence and to help you become a more effective leader. It will enable you to: \n\n Understand your impact on others;\n Adapt your leadership style;\n Improve your influencing skills;\n Communicate effectively;\n Build commitment to a shared vision;\n Foster collaboration and build high performing teams;\n Accelerate decision making;\n Prioritize and deliver results;\n Be your personal best and inspire your team members to be their best;\n Lead change; and\n Shape the desired culture.\n\nProgram Details \nThe program consists of seven classes:  a full day in person kick off followed by 6 zoom sessions.  Attendees are expected to attend all sessions so please review the dates below to confirm your availability prior to applying. \n\nPrework: Prior to the start of the program\, you will be assigned background reading.  You will be asked to identify your own leadership challenges and complete a DiSC assessment.\nAttendance:  Participants will be expected to attend all seven classes.  Applicants should block the following dates:\n\n\nJanuary 29\,  2024   10 a.m.-4 p.m. (THIS DATE IS CANCELLED)\n\n\nFeb 15\, 2024               9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom\n\n\nMar 4\, 2024                9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom\nMar 18\, 2024              9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom\nApr 4\, 2024                 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom (formerly Apr 8\, 2024)\nApr 25\, 2024               9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom\nMay 9\, 2024                9 a.m. to 12 p.m. via zoom\n\n3.  Homework: There will be self-study between workshops with relevant readings\, videos etc. \nCommitment \nApplicants are making a psychological “contract” to themselves\, their peers\, and senior management.  Learning is hard work and requires full commitment.  People have different learning styles and needs; this program asks you to coach and work with peers\, experiment with new behaviors on the job\, and be open to learning more about yourself.  We understand that this is a meaningful commitment to make\, and we are confident that you will learn and grow significantly by participating in MLP II. \nThank you. \nHolly \nMLP II Application
