SUMMARY:PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF CASELAW TO COMMITMENT HEARINGS
DESCRIPTION:Barnstable\, Plymouth\, and Bristol Counties Regional Coordinator Virtual Training Via Zoom May 17\, 2021 at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM \nPRACTICAL APPLICATION OF CASELAW TO COMMITMENT HEARINGS \nPRESENTER: DEVORAH VESTER\, MENTAL HEALTH APPEALS STAFF ATTORNEY \n2 MHLD (regular) Credits \nAttorney Vester will give a presentation focusing on how to best utilize older and newer mental health case law during two phases of the commitment case. She will discuss the use of cases to (1)  assist with relevant hearsay objections during the hospital’s case\, and (2) lay down the legal standard for the motion for required finding. The goal is to give counsel a reliable structure for the practical application of caselaw at the hearing. Attendees will learn that the purpose of the structure is to not only give the court an opportunity to reflect on the law and avoid erroneous rulings/findings\, but also to support trial counsel in preserving the record for appeal. \nThis presentation is open to all and there is no space limit! \nRegister in advance for this meeting: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYvdOyqrT4uE9ZoJ44iwCqWaQ18vZmIEQsE \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nPlease contact the following with any questions: \nJoan LeGraw:   attorneyjlegraw@gmail.com or \nMike O’Brien:   obrienmichael80@yahoo.com \n  \n
