Immigration Legal Services and Community Education on Immigration Services Gets Support from Boston Mayor
On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh held a press conference to announce his plans to increase community education and legal services for immigration issues, including an immigration legal defense fund. Attorney Wendy Wayne, Director of the CPCS Immigration Impact Unit, Atty. Jennifer Klein, CPCS Immigration Law Specialist, and CPCS General Counsel Lisa Hewitt attended the press conference. CPCS Chief Counsel Anthony Benedetti released the following statement in support of the Mayor’s initiative:

Thank you to Mayor Walsh for again taking positive steps to alleviate the fear and uncertainty that the immigrant population of Boston and other parts of our country currently face. His leadership has been outstanding and today’s proposal to increase community education and legal services for immigration issues will certainly create a more welcoming and safe environment in the city. The Mayor’s efforts in securing funding for legal representation of those who have lived in our communities for decades and now face deportation, but cannot afford counsel and do not have a right to government funded counsel, should be applauded. His commitment to doing what is right, what is just, and what is best to protect individuals and their families is having a significant impact on a very difficult situation and CPCS commends him for his hard work and sincere efforts.
