Starting Monday, August 31st 2020, we are blocking access to CPCS email and Zelly from outside the United States.
What this means:
- If you are traveling outside the United States, you will be blocked from accessing CPCS email or Zelly on the Web or phone or laptop — unless you use GoToMyPC
- You can still RECEIVE email sent from anywhere in the world.
- So, if a client emails you from Peru, you will receive it, and you may respond to it.
- However, if you are traveling in Peru, you will not be able to access your email to send or read emails until you return to the United States (unless using GoToMyPC)
Why are we doing this?
On a daily basis we see probes of our email servers (and other Cloud services) from bad actors around the world. Since our representation is in the US, it should be rare that any member of staff needs to access CPCS email (or Cloud applications) from outside the US. By restricting this access, we help further protect our environments from hackers (this is called reducing the attack surface).
We understand there are rare circumstances where staff are overseas but still working and need access to their email (or Zelly).
If you need a temporary exemption, you must request it from your Managing Director (or equivalent) and have them reach out to me. You need to request it 5 business days in advance of your trip. The request needs to have a start and end date.
This will be posted on the intranet, and I will be updating the IT 101 Guide (also on the intranet) to reflect this change.
